Speaker 1: Aaron Snowberger
Title: Google Classroom 101
Abstract: Google Classroom is a solid Learning Management System (LMS) that has recently been released to the public (anyone with a Gmail account). It integrates smoothly with all of Google's other G Suite Office tools (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Drawings), and is additionally extensible with various free Add-ons available for the G Suite Apps. Together, Google Classroom and G Suite make a very robust digital classroom experience easy and fun to set up and utilize. In my experience, both students and teachers have been impressed with its ease of use and effectiveness.
Biography: Aaron Snowberger is a Google Certified Trainer, Educator, and G Suite Administrator. He's the Technology instructor at Global Prodigy Academy international high school in Jeonju where he's been instructing students and staff in G Suite since 2013. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a master's degree in Graphic/Media Design. Aaron has lived in Jeonju since 2006, and has also taught English at Jeonju University since 2010.
Speaker 2: Navid Mahlooji
Title: Turning Grammar into Speaking
Abstract: English is one of the easiest languages to learn and yet many struggle with it. Most part of the blame falls on teachers. To have a good class not only do the teachers need to be interested in what they do, but also to understand the responsibilities that come with the job. To make a learner interested in a second language is tricky. Using good communication skills, proper teaching methods, and of course getting something out of the learners are important. Moreover, grammar is always considered as something dull and boring; however, turning grammar into speaking exercises makes learners aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
Outline
- How important is for a teacher, especially a foreign one to be able to communicate with all the students and how to involve shy students in class.
- Having a proper board to enhance student’s learning through exposure.
- Pre-task, task, and post task activities. We will work on a few examples as a group.
- Teaching present perfect.
- How to get the students to do speaking exercises on their own.
Biography: I was born in Iran and moved to India when I was 16 and stayed there for more than 10 years. I started teaching English when I was nineteen. It was not a walk in the park, and I made more mistakes than I can remember. Twelve years have passed since then, and I have taught in different institutes in India and Iran. In Korea, however, I work as a private tutor. It's worth mentioning that I have also passed a few TEFL courses. However, most of what I do in class comes out of experience and observation of the senior teachers.
