Workshop abstract:

Every teacher has had the experience of asking a question to the class, and getting either silence or, at best, a few scattered hands raised in response. For some teachers, this experience is rare, but for others – especially those teaching low-confidence or low-level students – the experience and accompanying frustration is all-too-common.

This workshop will show several micro-strategies that will help a teacher to get more students answering their questions in class. These strategies are simple and instantly usable in the classroom, and can be applied in multiple teaching contexts. The strategies are the result of the workshop facilitator’s many years of experience in teaching low-level and low-confidence students, and have proved themselves time and time again in the classroom.
