Abstract

This workshop on curriculum development will provide insight on how to select activities for a class, especially when teaching without a textbook. It will cover the basics of instructional design including how to identify learners and how to create learning objectives. Different learning strategies are available to meet different goals or learning objectives; this workshop will present a number of different kinds of learning strategies effective for Korean English learners, including those using resources that are readily available on the internet via Youtube and Vimeo. It will discuss how to choose strategies that are effective to teach different types of content and achieve varying learning objectives. This workshop will also cover the topic of rhythm and pacing of classes and how to orchestrate a class that will be fun, invigorating, and educationally productive. This will be an interactive hands-on, participatory workshop offering attendees the opportunity to engage with the material and discuss the results in a group setting as well as ask questions.
