After the meeting you are welcome to join us for lunch at one of the many restaurants in Nampo-dong.

Presenters

Amanda Copen - Students with Special Needs in the ESL classroom

All of the students we encounter in our schools (public/private/hagwon, etc.) deserve a quality English education.  However, it can be difficult to know what to do when faced with a special needs student.  Amanda's presentation will provide some tips and tools that will benefit both teachers and students.

Amanda Copen is a Native English Teacher in Dadaepo, Busan, Korea. She received her Bachelor’s of Education degree in Special Education in 2011 with licensure in grades K-12. After six months of teaching in Cleveland, Ohio, she decided it was now or never and decided to try out her dream of traveling and applied to the EPIK program.

Kathleen Kelley - How to Include Songs in Lessons

We all enjoy a catchy tune now and then.  Adding the right song to a lesson can make the lesson more enjoyable, and improve the students understanding of a topic, key expression or grammar point.  The key is finding an appropriate song and building activities to accompany it. Kathleen will present song and activity ideas that she has used with both elementary and middle school students.

Kathleen Kelley has been teaching in Busan since 2011.  She spent three years in a public middle school before being transferred to an elementary school for a year.  She is now working for an afterschool program.

Tiana Gabriel - Using Contests to Motivate Language Learning

Contests often bring a measure of excitement to the classroom. The desire to do well and win can often motivate students to work harder both in class and at home to practice a language. Tiana will speak about her experience doing contests with students and the different ways that they can be tailored to fit a variety of language levels.

Tiana Gabriel has been teaching in the South Korea for almost 3 years. She currently works in a Private English Kindergarten teaching Kindergarten and Elementary students and has experience working with Middle School students as well. She has a background in theater and music and incorporates these skills often in her work with her students.
