KOTESOL Proceedings 2025, Volume 2, is now available online to all KOTESOL members. This volume contains 24 articles and 200-plus pages by authors who presented related workshops, panel discussions, poster presentations, roundtables, and approaches and techniques sessions at the 2025 Korea TESOL International Conference. Volume 2 complements Volume 1, which features 36 papers by KOTESOL 2025 invited speakers and research session presenters.

2026 Research Grant Award Announcement

The Research Committee is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2026 KOTESOL Research Grant (₩500,000). This year’s award goes to Sarah Warfield for the project “AI Use and Instructor Readiness in STEM EMI Contexts in South Korea.”

Focusing on the growing role of artificial intelligence in higher education, this study explores how EMI instructors teaching STEM subjects understand, use, and evaluate AI in their teaching. It also investigates how these instructors conceptualize their readiness to teach disciplinary content through English.

Jeonju North Jeolla April Workshop Recap and Upcoming Events

On April 4th at a workshop at JBNU,  Dr. Natalie Thibault, one of our own, presented on "Learning with Diagrams". She spoke about how students' creating has positive impacts on learning. She showed us different ways to do that in class using things like Venn diagrams and flow charts, and how expansive it can be.
Nicole Cyr explained about social emotional learning. Then we discussed things like practical applications and using SEL competencies in your class. Self reflection is also an important part of teaching using SEL.

After considerable reflection, I am sharing some bittersweet news: Daegu Chapter is officially 
closing. 

Like so many organizations, we were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Even as life

Winter is coming soon, and so is the Winter 2025 issue of The English Connection. High Engagement, High Motivation: A Look Back at the JNJ November Workshop

On November 1, Jeonju North Jeolla KOTESOL had our second workshop of the fall. Courtney McLaren introduced us to K-pop Fandom in the Classroom. People who share fandom of any sort can also share lived experiences, age, nationality, gender, ethnicity, among others. They are invested intellectually and emotionally. With other fans they can share comfort, enjoyment, community, identity and positive experiences. KOTESOL's Annual Business Meeting (ABM) for 2025 will be held on Saturday, November 1, starting at 7 p.m. All members are welcome to attend! The meeting will include reports on KOTESOL's past year, voting on any proposed amendments to the KOTESOL constitution and bylaws (none were submitted by the September 30 deadline this year), and announcement of election results.
