1. Statement of Purpose of the YLT SIG
 

The Young Learners & Teens Special Interest Group (YLT SIG) aims to enhance professional development and support for educators in private academies and public schools who teach young learners and teens.

The YLT SIG will focus on supporting teachers of students from kindergarten to high school.

This SIG will focus on addressing specific challenges and opportunities in teaching young learners and teens, fostering a community of practice, and sharing innovative strategies and resources.

 

2.  List of proposed activities and undertakings of the YLT SIG 

 

a. Workshops and Professional Development Sessions

 

Classroom Management Workshops

  • These sessions will provide strategies for managing diverse classroom settings, engaging young learners, and creating a conducive learning environment.
     

Pedagogical Theory and Teaching Techniques

  • Focus on the latest research and effective teaching methodologies specific to young learners.
     

Incorporating new technology

  • Face the challenge and encourage discussion of adapting to and assimilating new technology into teaching methodologies.
     

Resource Sharing and Development

  • Offering a platform for teachers to share and develop educational resources tailored for young learners.

 

b. Work Environment and Industry-Related Support

 

Management and Legal Workshops

  • Provide information on navigating the educational sector's administrative and legal landscapes, including understanding employment rights, contract negotiation, and legal protections.
