Meet the people behind the YLT SIG

Andre' Jacobs - YLT Facilitator

I have been working in Korea since 2001 and I have done most of my teaching in private academies. For ten years I was co-running an academy and have gained valuable insight into the industry as a teacher and director.

I am an independent contractor now, but I still teach at an academy as well as an afterschool program. Teaching young learners is without a doubt my passion and calling.

Having spent this much time in the English education industry, I am intimately aware of issues related to the professional development of teachers as well as visa and workplace difficulties. By managing the YLT SIG I hope to provide the kind of support and development that I think is needed for teachers of young learners.

Kang Chanhyung - YLT Facilitator

I am Chanhyung Kang, CEO of Kang & Kriel Recruitment and TEFLNews.org, with over 30 years of teaching experience in private English education, as well as specializing in recruiting TEFL teachers. Even though I am new to KOTESOL, my commitment to educator welfare is longstanding, as evidenced by my advocacy for foreign teachers in Korea, particularly in addressing labor and immigration challenges. Through TEFLNews.org, I have created a platform for supporting these educators' rights and needs. Through my involvement with the YLT Special Interest Group within KOTESOL, I aim to extend this support, fostering a comprehensive network for the professional and personal growth of English language educators especially in the private sector in Korea.
