At the most recent National Council meeting, it was decided that a committee would be formed to support the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and to review the SIG bylaws. This committee has now been established under the guidance of the National Council.
In order to reach a consensus and an amicable, practical and sustainable solution to address the topics brought forth at the last National Council meeting, we will first conduct a meeting in July (time and date to be confirmed) among all the SIG leaders, the SIG Committee chair and co-chair (Andre Jacobs), the 2nd VP (Wesley Martin), and Rob Dickey. This meeting will gather information about the individual SIGs, their facilitator(s) and members, and their process of creating and leading a SIG. In addition, the future of the SIG committee and possible additional members will be discussed.
At the second meeting (time and date to be confirmed, but soon after the 1st meeting), we will discuss the process of creating new SIGs, archiving dormant SIGs, and reviewing and updating the SIG Guidelines.
For the first meeting, I kindly ask each of you to prepare the following:
- A brief overview of your SIG team and its members
- Information on past and upcoming events
- KOTESOL web page information, and social media activities
- Please familiarise yourself with the Guidelines for Korea TESOL's SIGs (document below)
- Any questions, concerns, or discussion points you would like to raise
I ask that you all be open to the process that the committee has decided to take to resolve this matter. We believe that we need to look inward to find the answers.
The first meeting will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 5:00 PM via Zoom.
ALL SIG facilitators have been contacted via their koreatesol.org email address, and a notice has been posted on the KOTESOL Facebook page.
