KOTESOL 2024 Awarded Platinum EVE "Equal Voices in ELT" Badge

KOTESOL 2024, Korea TESOL’s 31st International Conference, has been awarded a Platinum EVE “Equal Voices in ELT” badge. This badge recognizes English language teaching (ELT) events with parity of both gender and first language/second language speaker background among plenary and featured speakers. This year's conference theme, "Players on the World Stage: From EFL Classrooms to Global Lives," emphasizes English as an international language in a global world, a vision that is vividly reflected in the invited speaker lineup.

KOTESOL 2024's plenary speakers Boyoung Lee, Aya Matsuda, and Guy Cook, along with a host of featured speakers and panelists, bring a rich tapestry of insights from across the globe and various strands of scholarship and practice. Topics covered include the changing landscape of TESOL, the implications of English as an international language, language play and the role of play in language development, learner and teacher identities, and Korean and global popular cultures. A special strand focusing on educational technology and artificial intelligence will include sessions conducted in Korean.

The EVE Platinum badge is a testament to KOTESOL's dedication to promoting equality and diversity within the ELT community. Bryan Hale, chair of KOTESOL 2024, expressed his excitement about the recognition: "Receiving the Platinum EVE badge is significant for us. It underlines our commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse platform for English language professionals worldwide. Our theme this year challenges us to rethink the boundaries of EFL teaching and to embrace our interconnectedness. This badge is a recognition of our efforts to bring together a line-up that speaks to our diverse and dynamic professional development communities."

KOTESOL invites educators, scholars, language education professionals, and students from around the globe to join this landmark event, taking place at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul from April 27 to 28, 2024. The conference promises an enriching experience that not only highlights the latest in EFL teaching and learning but also celebrates the diversity and dynamism of the global ELT community.
