Join us for a fun afternoon of community and professional growth!

Today’s event will kick off by launching the “Put the Fun in Fundraiser” Silent Auction, featuring teaching materials, games, and books — perfect for educators looking for great resources and new reads. Browse, bid, and connect with fellow teachers and book lovers alike.

This event is held in collaboration with Silent Book Club of Jeonju, offering a wonderful chance to discover new bookish treasures and to share your passion for reading. Bidding will stay open throughout the event, including during breaks and after the final session.

Let’s dive into our featured workshop:

Workshop Title:  Emergency English for Non-Native Speakers: Vocabulary Building for Safety and Wellness

In this interactive workshop, participants will explore strategies for teaching emergency-related vocabulary and safety scenarios to non-native English speakers in both high school and higher education settings. Focusing on improved safety for students who will study abroad in the U.S., and using specific terminology from real-world alerts and national systems like the National Weather Service, we’ll discuss building learners’ understanding of physical safety, emotional wellness, and institutional emergency protocols. Attendees will engage with adaptable classroom materials and planning tools that promote linguistic access and emotional support during crises. By the end of the session, educators will leave with practical, ready-to-use resources, apps, and a deeper awareness of the language barriers faced by international and multilingual students during emergencies in the U.S. and abroad.

Presenter Bio: Corrine T. Spencer

SUNY University at Albany, PhD student, Educational Policy & Leadership

After the workshop, stick around for our Idea Swap Shop — a casual share-and-take session where you can pick up fresh, practical teaching ideas to try in your classroom right away. Our chapter officers will get things started by sharing some of their favourite classroom activities and tips, and we’d love to hear your ideas too. Whether you share or just soak up inspiration, you’re sure to leave with something useful!

We’ll wrap up the afternoon by finalizing auction sales and making sure everyone leaves with their winning items.

Proceeds from the Silent Auction will go directly to support future chapter events.

Come for the bargains, stay for the learning, and help build a stronger teaching community!
