All members and non-members invited.

We are going to kick off the fall semester with a bang and will have 2 presenters, Joanne Huh and Will Lingle, speaking on:

Joanne: Content and language Integrated lesson (a practical presentation aimed at teaching young learners)

Will: Should we teach grammar?  Traditional grammar classes aren't producing students with communicative competence, and grammar "rules", on further investigation, are better described as patterns, trends, or guidelines: language being creative, spontaneous, and complex, memorizing hard-and-fast rules simply isn't a way to learn to produce language fluently.  Should we teach grammar at all, then? If not, then what?  If so, how?

I'll give our distinguished participants some challenging questions in an effort to stimulate reflection and debate on what exactly it is we're trying to teach when we teach a language.

Afterwards we will be gathering for a meal and further discussion. Everyone is invited to attend.
