Meeting Teacher Needs

KTT will come to your area.  You organize the gathering, we provide the teacher trainers for the subjects in which you want training.  We can provide trainers for 1 hour workshops or for 5 to 6 hours of workshops, depending on your needs.

Facts

KTT offers workshops in Methodology, Classroom Activities, Research, and Skill Building.  We tailor make our workshops to fit the needs of our audiences. Our trainers are members of KOTESOL (Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages), who volunteer their efforts to help improve English education in Korea.

Sara Davila presented  on Task-Based Language Learning at the Daegu chapter and received great feedback.

March 28, 2009

The Seoul Chapter Conference saw a great turnout of over 300 people and featured many KTT presenters: David Shaffer, Grace H. Wang, Andrew Finch, Kevin Parent, David Deubelbeiss, Scott Miles, Tory Thorkelson, and our newest KTT presenter, as of March 31, Heebon Park-Finch.

December 13th, 2008

Aaron Jolly presented at the Jeonju-North Jeolla Chapter meeting on using "Thinking Routines" in the classroom. This presentation draws on research from Harvard's Visible Thinking program, which Aaron attended over the summer.

November 15th, 2008

Tim Dalby stepped down as KTT coordinator to focus more on his new role as 1st Vice-President. Joshua Davies assumes the KTT mantle.  

November 1st-2nd, 2008 - JALT International Conference

Scott Miles, Kevin Parent and Joshua Davies went to Tokyo to represent KOTESOL at JALT 2008.

October 25th-26th, 2008 - KOTESOL's 16th International Conference

KTT was well represented at the International Conference with no fewer than six presentations being approved by the vetting process. Two of our presenters were also in attendance for publishers. For more details go here.

October 11th, 2008

Sara Davila and Adriane Moser presented at the Gwangju-Jeonnam Chapter outreach event in Suncheon. Sara talked about reading and writing strategies and Adriane was discussing focus and coherence in ELL writing. Read feedback about Sara's presentation here.  

September 27th, 2008

Mary-Jane Scott travelled down to Jeju to help the chapter with some ideas for increasing membership and connecting with mainland KOTESOL. She also gave well-received presentation on how to teach presentation skills. Read feedback here. Meanwhile, Daejeon-Chungcheong chapter hosted a bevy of KTT speakers for their 'Teaching and Assessing for Understanding in EFL' symposium at KNUE near Cheongju. Presenting were Tim Thompson (The Apprentice English Class: Getting University Students Involved Outside the Classroom), David Shaffer (Teaching Practices That Encourage Learner Autonomy for Life in the Real World), Adriane Moser (Multiple Intelligences and Trait-Based Writing Assessment), Sara Davila (Creating and Implementing Performance Assessment), Tory Thorkelson ( A Teacher Training Program in Focus: Drama in Public Schools) and Aaron Jolly (What is teaching for understanding?).

September 20th, 2008

Tory Thorkelson presented in Busan at their regular monthly meeting. Tory spoke about a teacher training program with a focus on using drama in public schools. Read feedback here. Aaron Jolly was also in action talking to around 200 teachers from Koreapolyschool - a nationwide chain of English language schools.

Ralph Sabio presented alongside Tim Thompson at the Daejeon-Chungnam chapter meeting. Ralph discussed the use of online videos in the classroom with particular emphasis on young learners. Tim gave an interesting presentation about how to deal with difficult situations in the classroom. Read feedback on Ralph's presentations here.  

June 14th, 2008

Tim Dalby presented at the Daegu Chapter in conjunction with the first Daegu English fair. The first session was an explanation of schema theory and its contribution to reading in a second language. The second session was a general introduction to the services provided by KOTESOL. Read Feedback here.

Aaron Jolly and Ralph Sabio presented at a special Wonju Outreach event. Ralph talked about online videos and the authentic materials that can be used in English language learning and Aaron's session focused on teaching with a balanced reading approach. Read Feedback here.

Aaron Jolly presented a session on Cooperative learning methods at Gwangju chapter's monthly meeting. Read feedback here. David Shaffer, Kevin Parent and Tim Dalby all presented at the Jeonju-North Jeolla Regional Conference held at Jeonju University.

April 26, 2008

Joshua Davies, expert on Computer-Aided Language Learning (CALL) and national KOTESOL webmaster joined KTT.

Kevin Parent, a specialist on vocabulary and word meaning, joined KTT. 

April 22, 2008

Tory Thorkelson stepped down as KTT coordinator. Tory developed KTT's presence on the new style KOTESOL website, attracted several new presenters and generally increase awareness of KTT and its functions. Tim Dalby takes over as coordinator.

April 12, 2008

KTT ran an outreach session for the Cheongju Chapter at Korea National University of Education. Ralph Sabio talked about internet video and Tim Dalby presented some basics of vocabulary teaching. Phil Owen also showed how to use logic puzzles as warmers for class.

March 29, 2008

KTT was co-host of a conference with Seoul chapter with the theme "Share your Experience: Teachers helping Teachers". This featured a plenary by Mario Rinvolucri as well as a number of workshops from both the Research SIG and KTT.

October, 2007

Many of our presenters presented at the 15th KOTESOL International Conference (some of them TWICE!) and Tim Thompson joins our team.  

June, 2007

Kira Litvin leaves Korea and KTT but two new KTT presenters will be joining the team shortly.

March, 2007

Maria Lisak steps down as KTT Coordinator after a very active and succesful 2 year stint and Tory Thokelson, a long time KTT member, takes over the Coordinator position.

July 1, 2003

Peter Nelson becomes the 4th KTT Coordinator.



April 18, 2003

KTT presenters, James Ranalli and David Kim present 2 workshops at the KOTESOL Jeolla Conference in Kwangju.



October 28. 2000

KTT presents a workshop on Learning Strategies at the YETA conference in Pusan.




September 30-October 1, 2000

KTT presented 8 workshops at the KOTESOL National Conference in Taegu.  Four new workshops were added to our repertoire.



August 2, 2000

KTT provides a plenary speech on Classroom Management at the KOSETA National Conference in Kwangju.



May 5, 2000

KTT presents a workshop on Classroom Management at the KONGJU2000 Conference in Kongju.




May, 1998

KTT presented its first workshop.  Since that time, KTT presented workshops in Pusan, Taegu, Taejon, Kwangju, Seoul, and Suwon.



November, 1997

KOTESOL Teacher Development Special Interest Group decides to begin a teacher training committee. The committee began developing materials and workshops for public schools and private institutions throughout Korea.
